I have to chuckle when I think back to the day of my first duck hunting venture. Or should I say, the first time out with my older brother and his friend. Of course, I was too young back then to do the shooting, so it was I who fulfilled the part of being the go-for - - retriever, I think it is more commonly called. Too young, so no gun had I, but I could paddle their boat for them. Now comes the humorous part, bang bang, bang – go get ‘em Lar. Out I go amongst the decoys, first bird now in hand, but still flipping around. Me the Greenie hollers out, “it’s still alive, what do I do?” Answer replies, “wring its neck.” Well, I’d seen Mom wring out clothes before, and there I commenced, to actually wringing said birds neck. Being scrutinized by the “ground crew,” as I effected the (mind you) fourth 360 twist to the now narrowing but fancily ornamented yet twisted  neck, and with blood now running down over my hands, voices rang out, “NO not that way !! Just bring them back in  and we’ll take care of them.” I must admit, back then, I could curl a ducks neck like nobody’s business. Time changes everything !
