what would be a good starter rifle for my wife as she does not want alot of recoil but wants to drop a deer.

I would go with a 30-30 Marlin lever action.

I agree with Cascade. I had a Marlin 336 in 30-30 and it is a great starter rifle. I now have a 44mag rifle but the shells are not that common where I live but 30-30 shells are available everywhere. Good luck.
