Here in Wisconsin, there is a lot of debate on how much wolves impact the deer herd. I would think wolves fall way down on the list as far as impacting fawn mortality, etc. I think I read something where coyotes and bears had a much greater impact on the herd-- any thoughts?

I think it really is dependent on the location. I know in Michigan we have a lot of problems with TB, not necessarily predatory animals.

I don't know what the wolf population is like in Wisconsin, but I would think that any predatory animal would impact a herd. I am sure both wolves and coyotes take a bite out of the herd's numbers, no pun intended.

Here in New Jersey predatory animals don't impact the population enough, and that is why Jersey has such a generous deer hunting season in many areas of the state.  The population is too big for the environment, and it's a healthy population.  Our doe have twins and triplets each season.  Multiple births is the sign of a healthy population.

Between bow hunting and our gun seasons, I can hunt from the beginning of September until the beginning of February.  Most of the seasons in my zone have unlimited antlerless deer because we have such a big population for the area.  In some areas you must bag an anterless deer first before you can even use your buck tag.
